For Caregivers

Need a break?

Are you a caregiver who is balancing your own life and family, a job, and the care of a frail elderly or disabled loved one? Senior care is not an easy task. This quick quiz will help you identify your strengths and weaknesses as a caregiver. Be honest with your responses; denial does not make you a better caregiver, nor does it help the one for whom you are caring.

Often Sometimes Never
Is it difficult for you to find time to go grocery shopping, run an errand, take a shower, or meet a friend?
Does caregiving make you feel stressed, depressed, tense, overwhelmed, or guilty?
Is there stress in your family over caregiving issues?
Are you eating correctly?
Do caregiving demands decrease your energy level?
Are you able to take care of your own personal health needs?
Do you feel the one you care for would enjoy more socialization or companionship than you currently provide?
Do you feel some respite from your caregiving responsibilities would be beneficial to you?

Add the number of check marks in each of the columns. If you have checked three or more in the “often” column, or five or more in the “sometimes” column, adult day services are an option you should consider.
